New information from last week’s meeting regarding the AV-30-C by uAvionix.
1.ALL GRUMMAN CLASS I and CLASS II aircraft will be on the AML.
2. While the website uAvionix FAQ lists the certified units for replacement of the TC only, if 2 units are installed, you should be able to yank the Vacuum system. (they will be approved as Primary Flight Instruments)
3. The AV-30-C units are capable of full ARINC429** software updates will upgrade the units.
4. STEC Autopilot support will be the first to be released.
It is up in the air if the Century Line or BendixKing/TruTrak will be next. Treo is lower priority for us at this point based on volume of installs and future potential near-term. I would like your feedback on this!!!!! There are quite a few of us planning to go with the TruTrack but most of us have non-supported Century autopilots in the plane. I expect to know more next week on the BK decision to certify Grummans as next the airframes for TruTrak. (stay tuned)
5. The new tailBeaconX with integrated transponder will be controllable from the unit.
Question: Will the AV-30C display vertical guidance for IFR approaches?
**The initial AV-30 Certified software release will not have ARINC429 software enabled to provide the Glide Slope.
The current GPS data overlay information is RS232 data.
So, on the first release, it will not be able to serve as a primary indicator for IFR GPS Vnav. But, unlike the Garmin, it will be designed to play well with other manufacturers hardware.
This is a high priority planned upgrade for 2020.
I would love to tell you everything I know, but, I am required to respect confidentiality as my role with uAvionix expands beyond reseller.
Please comment with your thoughts and questions.
I have a tailBeacon and have preordered an AV-30. I currently have a Century 1 autopilot with no plans to replace it. It is connected to a Garmin GNS430 (non-WAAS) that I want to incorporate with the AV-30.
Hi Jimmy,
I’ll do my best to answer. I don’t your expectations for what you want to do. The RS232 output from your Garmin can be fed to the AV-30C as a repeater display.
You didn’t say if your plan is to use the AV-30 to replace your AI or DG but the data is available for display to either. These will be fields such as GPS ground speed, Next Waypoint, Bearing to next waypoint, distance to next waypoint, Ground Track, Desired Track, xTrack error.
The C1 operation will not change from the way you do it today. The AV-30C when released will not “drive” the AP without a software upgrade and a GPSS converter box to ARINC429 and will be released later.
