APS Black Steel – Break-in Procedures
Conditioning Procedure for APS Linings
Metallic Linings
NOTE: APS linings are an iron-based, metallic compound. These linings must be conditioned correctly to provide optimum performance and service life.
- Taxi Aircraft at a high rate of speed (30-35 kts.).
- Apply brakes with a slightly heavier than normal pressure.
- Repeat the above operation for a second consecutive time. Do not let the brakes cool between stops.
- Allow brakes to cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Apply brakes to confirm that normal pressure will hold the aircraft at high-level static run-up power settings. If the brakes hold, the conditioning procedure is complete. If brakes do not hold, allow brakes to cool completely and repeat steps 1-3.
Non-Metallic Linings *
- Taxi aircraft for 1500 feet with the engine at 1700 rpm applying brake pedal forces needed to develop a 5- 10 mph taxi speed.
Non-metallic linings are suitable for all types of steel or chrome-plated brake discs.
