IMPORTANT: uAvionix tailBeacon Update

April 3, 2019
tailBeacon TSO Application is Filed!
Jeff’s Summary: Nothing happens as quickly as anticipated but we will have our tailBeacons long before the mandate.

April 3: uAvionix

The great news is that we’ve filed the package with the Aircraft Certification Office (ACO) and we are waiting eagerly for their response.
What is taking so long????

First, we wanted to give skyBeacon a little bit of a “burn-in” period to make sure that there weren’t any major issues that needed to be taken care of. A couple of adjustments were made and we’re happy with the results.

Second, there was a required update to the GPS as the old standard for TSO-C145d was updated to TSO-C145e. The end result is the WAAS GPS is even more robust as it now processes additional SBAS messages for more accuracy. tailBeacon will contain the first TSO-C145e GPS on the planet!

Third, we expanded to our manufacturing facility to a new location in Columbia Falls, MT. Opening that facility and getting FAA approval took a little more time than we would have liked. What Next? Our application still needs to be approved – but as always, we’ve been working closely with the ACO. Then we’ll need to get the STC.

As with skyBeacon, we expect a combination of an initial Approved Model List (AML) and the Form 337 minor modification process for those not on the AML. We should be able to wrap up the entire thing in 6-8 weeks.
